How to Save your Body after a Weekend of Destroying it.

One of three things happens every time I come back from a night out - 1) I eat carbohydrates 2) I fall asleep while eating carbohydrates or 3) I actually take my makeup off before taking the Advil I put out for myself and going to bed. Three almost never happens. I try, I really do, I'm just trash. Drunk Ally (TM) is not my friend. I spend all week applying my 20 minute long skincare routine and drinking green juice. I have no alcohol tolerance anymore and sometimes it feels like I'm just getting drunk so I can justify ordering pizza later. Sober Ally, even Tipsy Ally - they'll make smart choices about their face and body. Drunk Ally is Snooki. I woke up Saturday morning with my lashes still on, wearing a black dog t-shirt and no pants. Didn't eat though!! Skinny!!! The joke is I ate 3 bags of tortilla chips the next day!! And fell asleep eating (option 2) on Saturday night!

In fairness, I'm not quite that bad every weekend. My friend graduated with her Master's on Friday and then Cinco de Mayo - I had no choice. I had to do it to them. Usually I'll do 2 smaller detoxes a weekend, but this Sunday called for detoxing my entire body and praying to the gods of premature skin-aging to spare me the wrinkles I deserved. Whether or not you are better than me, i.e don't come home starving from the bars and actually take your makeup off, I think for the most part we all could use a detox come Sunday night. I've gotten a bunch of questions about my skincare routine & I'm trying to be as transparent as I can be - it takes a lot- but I don't come out of the weekends with chapped lips, a stomach ache, and a 3 day hangover anymore. Usually. My body also doesn't handle hangovers like it used to. I'm gettin' old, kids.

Here's my lil step-by-step "Sunday Detox" guide to absolving yourself of most of your sins & not wanting to die Monday morning.

First and foremost, if you haven't taken your makeup off yet, take off your makeup. I know that could probably go unspoken but we're not perfect here. Maybe throw in a water, a water with lemon, whatever. Once your skin has been prepped (I usually just wash my face beforehand) apply a lip scrub and/or moisturizer. My favorite is the Dior Lip Sugar Scrub - the sugar dissolves and leaves a beautiful tinted moisturizer that lasts really well throughout the day! If your lips are like, peeling off, I would recommend either making a homemade scrub (sugar and olive oil) or utilizing a lip exfoliator (like Fresh's Sugar Lip Polish). It's more of an exfoliator than a moisturizer so it's great for getting rid of dead, dehydrated skin. Put a lip moisturizer on after (or Cetaphil) and let your lips recover a little. Sometimes I'll use a lip mask later that night if things are REALLY bad, but usually that will do the trick.

Now that your lips are coming back to life, apply a SERIOUS facial. Not a cutesy sheet mask - do a peel. Sheet masks won't help you here. If you slept with your makeup on 2 nights in a row and are dehydrated - facial peel. Throw the whole thing away, we're starting over. The T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial by Drunk Elephant has saved me on multiple occasions and I cannot speak more highly of it. My skin is glowing whenever I take it off. It might burn a little at first if its going on over a cut or a zit, but overall its quite mild and works as good as any peel I've ever gotten. Don't leave it on for too long, it WILL burn your skin if you have it on for more than about a half hour, & make sure not to use it under your eyes. The worst thing about waking up with your makeup on is taking it off and seeing how dead and droopy your skin looks, and this completely fixes that. It's a little on the pricier side, but I got mine last November and its still going strong!

Once you remove the mask, I'd recommend putting on a light moisturizer or using a cooling gel on your face. The mask works perfectly well on sensitive skin, my skin is just prone to getting really really red so I like to cool it down a bit after. I love using either my Peter Thomas Roth Blue Marine Algae or Cucumber Gel mask to cool down. The cucumber mask is additionally detoxifying as well (if you really feel like you need it!) so sometimes I'll do that at night before my normal skin care routine to hydrate and get any toxins from the air out of my pores.

I get the WORST bags under my eyes allllll of the time, so you can imagine how horrific they are when I wake up hungover and covered in glitter. I had read a blog by a Vogue columnist who said she had seen these Patchology Rejuvenating Eye Gels all over the place backstage at NYFW so obviously I had to try them. I can imagine models traveling all over the world and working 18 hour days while still needing to look hot probably have some good skincare fixes. I LOVE THESE. You only have to wear them for 15 minutes (now its saying 5 on the website but I thought it was 15 but who cares), I usually keep mine on for longer because they feel so good, and your bags are gone when you take them off. Like, completely gone. They feel so good on tired eyes and they're really cute (?? not that it matters but they're sparkly and I love them). I bought the small pack just to try them out and I'll definitely be investing in the larger pack soon! These are my favorite eye patches I've ever used.

Once the cool down mask is off (or you skipped it) and the eye patches are done (I do the cool mask and eye patches at the same) get some moisturizer on ya. I like using my Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray for this. Its so soft and keeps your skin well-hydrated PLUS you can keep applying to your sad, dying skin as desired and it won't make you greasy. Keeps that cool, soothing feeling on your skin.

Hopefully your face is recovering at this point and you're free to live your life for the rest of the day before your nighttime skincare routine (which you should probably lay on thicc). Even though my face feels better, I have a hard time with digestion if I have a day when I eat a bunch of cruddy food & I've felt so much better after I started taking Flatter Me from Hum. Hum's products are great! I take Flatter Me everyday before my two biggest meals and it helps alleviate bloating (I have suchhh a problem with lower abdominal blotting - PCOS doesn't help) and all and all has helped with my digestion. I have a gluten sensitivity and am almost always bloated & this has made a world of difference in only 2 weeks. Supposedly the results also come with time and help flatten out your stomach by how it absorbs fats and carbohydrates - I am praying to God that is the truth. I have a wedding to go to in a month and I am in full panic mode.

Another awesome Hum product I've been using are the Daily Cleanse pills - they help to detox your skin and body! I take these everyday, but they're perfect after the weekend. Helps detox your liver (amen) amongst other things, and my skin has been clearing up! Your skin could definitely use this after sleeping in makeup, but you will notice a difference if you're taking it on a daily basis as well!

At this point, I hope you all are recovered from the weekend, but if you're trying to take some preventative measures this week to save your body/face after the upcoming weekend (I AM BECAUSE ITS MY BIRTHDAY ON SATURDAY!! 23!! I AM OLD!!!) you should definitely check some of these products out! Sunday spa treatments are more fun than taking your makeup off before bed, even though we should probably do that. And probably not drink. Or eat pizza at 3am. Unlikely to try the other options so I'll just keep rubbing stuff on my face.

:)
